Cross The River With Boxes

PORTFOLIO this link https://fizagameengines.blogspot.com/2019/11/game-dev-portafolio.html

The present page shows the development of a game made for the Bonfire Jam 2020.

Cross The River With Boxes is a Puzzle first-person shooter in which the primary mechanic is to cross the river using a gravitational pistol to move boxes of different sizes. Also, this is the first game that I  developed in Unreal Engine 4. You can check it out here: https://ivanzamoraarias.itch.io/crosstheriverwithboxes

Design

Mechanics:

Jump, Move and Aim.

Shoot a gravitational laser bean.(For more information follow this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiX_P4V58hg&t=127s)

Move Boxes with the laser

Stack the boxes.

Arrange the boxes

Feelings:

Frustration

The feeling of drawing in the water

Dynamics:

By moving the boxes with the gravitational pistol the player would be able to cross the river.

In order to use the gravitational pistol the player must aim and be near a box to use the laser bean.

Observations

During testing most players decided to build stairs from the bottom of the water instead of placing a path, which I though would be the easier way toplay the game. The stacking mechanic was expected(the one responsable for building stairs under water) however I though it would be much harder because more presition jumps are required.

The feelin of drawing could not be achieved since the material responsable for the water does not show its presense on the oposite side of the plane(the geometry used to show water).
